Steven Edgar, FACHE PT
Chief Executive Officer
In 2016, Steven Edgar joined Medical City Denton from Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, a 99-bed acute care hospital in Wichita, Kansas, where he served as CEO for four years. During his tenure at Wesley Woodlawn he achieved outstanding patient satisfaction and employee engagement, and expanded service lines including ER, cardiology, and surgical services.
Prior to Wesley Woodlawn, Edgar served as Chief Operating Officer and Associate Administrator of the 760-bed Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, leading volume growth strategies, physician relations and recruitment, staffing, capital construction, and ancillary patient care departments.
Edgar holds a bachelor's degree in health science-physical therapy from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a Master of Public Administration - health administration, from University of Missouri, Kansas City. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Chief Operating Officer
John Walker joined Medical City Denton from Medical City Dallas, where he served associate administrator since August 2016.
Prior to joining Medical City Dallas, Walker served as the associate administrator at Medical City McKinney, where he oversaw pharmacy, laboratory, the senior health clinic, plant operations, food & nutrition services, environmental services and security.
During his tenure at Medical City McKinney, Walker achieved top employee engagement scores, opened a senior health clinic, increased patient experience scores in his role as service excellence champion, and served as the chief staffing officer. Additionally, he gained experience in product line development, strategic planning/capital acquisition management, and construction management.
Prior to joining HCA, Walker worked in commercial real estate at Swearingen Realty Group in Dallas. He holds a Master of Science, Healthcare Administration degree from Trinity University, along with a Master of Business Administration degree, with an emphasis in finance, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from Texas Tech University.
Walker has served on the board of directors for Community Lifeline Center, is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and was inducted into the Garland sports Hall of Fame in 2013. He resides in Plano with his wife Kendall and son, Graham.
Brandy Farrer, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Nursing Officer
Brandy Farrer is the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Medical City Denton. Brandy came to Medical City Denton in March 2019. Brandy had been CNO at Medical City Lewisville since 2014.
Brandy has more than 20 years of nursing experience and has spent the last 15 years serving in leadership positions within Medical City Healthcare. Her clinical nursing experience includes emergency medicine, critical care, cardiac catheterization lab and recovery room. At Medical City Lewisville, she helped increase critical care volume, earn the hospital stroke and chest pain accreditation and led the hospital through the expansion of cardiothoracic services, including open-heart surgery and interventional cardiac cath lab service. Under her leadership, employee engagement scores in acute and critical care rose to HCA Healthcare’s top 10 percent.
Brandy received an associate’s degree in nursing from Gordon College in Barnesville, Georgia, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from North Georgia College, and a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University. She is board certified in Executive Administration by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and is an active member of the North Texas Organization of Nurse Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She was also selected as one of the “Dallas-Fort Worth Great One Hundred Nurses” in 2014.
Howard Shaw, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Howard Shaw, MD, joined Medical City Denton as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in February 2017. The CMO will help advise and lead the hospital's medical experts and is a key position on the leadership team.
Dr. Shaw was previously medical director and CMO at Great Plains Health Innovations Network in North Platte, Nebraska. He also served as clinical professor at the Yale University School of Medicine, chair of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology eModule Advisory Committee, and board member of the American Association for Physician Leadership. Dr. Shaw earned his MD degree from the University of Kansas and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management.
